Description: Streptococcus canis. Streptococcus canis, a group G streptococci, is a commensal bacteria of dogs, cats, and cattle which is able to cause a number of opportunistic infections. This organism has been associated with cases of toxic shock and necrotizing faciitis in dogs and with cases of mastitis in cows. Streptococcus canis has also been isolated from cases of septicemia, meningitis and cellulitis in humans.
