Description: Chlorobium ferrooxidans. Chlorobium ferrooxidans is an anaerobic phototrophic bacterium isolated from anoxic freshwater sediment. This organism has only been grown in coculture with a chemoheterotrophic bacterium that is theorized to provide trace nutrients. Chlorobium ferrooxidans is able to grow phototrophically using ferrous iron as the sole electron donor.
