Project name: Aurantimonas manganoxydans
Description: Aurantimonas manganoxydans. Aurantimonas manganoxydans has been isolated from diverse marine envirnoments such as the Black Sea, hydrothermal vent plumes and the surface of Alvinella worms. This organism is able to oxidize manganese and also possesses genes for both the large and small subunits of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (RubisCO). Although this was the first report of RubisCO genes in a Mn(II)-oxidizing bacterium, the molecular and biochemical mechanisms of Mn(II) oxidation in this organism have yet to be explored.
