Description: Methanospirillum hungatei. This organsim is a methanogenic archaeon that has been isolated from bovine rumens, anaerobic sludge digestors and mud. It is structurally unusual in that each cell has an inner cell wall and a sheathed filament enclodes numerous individual cells which are separated by spacer plugs.
