Description: Vibrio sp. MV-1.MV-1 is related to other magnetic bacteria of the Magnetospirillum spp. though the %GC of 54.3 is much lower. This bacterium can synthesize intracellular particles of magnetite. This is of interest scientifically as the bacteria can align to the earths magnetic field and swim along these magnetic field lines. Magnetite formation is also an example of biomineralisation. The properties of the biomagnetite make them of potential interest for many biotechnological applications.
