Project name: Shewanella oneidensis MR-1
Description: Shewanella oneidensis strain MR-1. This strain was isolated from Oneida lake in New York, USA. It contains one plasmid and one chromosome, both of which have a number of gene duplications. Many of the duplicated genes appear to be involved in energy transport and metabolism. The chromosome also encodes a wide array of cytochrome C-type oxidases, which may contribute to the ability of the organism to use diverse electron acceptors. Numerous prophages and insertion sequencese are found in the chromosome as well.
