Project name: Streptococcus pneumoniae
Description: The study compare genomes of Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates belonging to different serotypes that were detected simultaneously from patients with invasive disease in South Africa. The aim is determine relationships between genomes of co-detected isolates and to identify potential interactions such as genetic recombination. Interaction between co-infecting pneumococci is important as this could be a mechanism for escaping effects of vaccine pressure by vaccine serotypes.
