Project name: Streptococcus pneumoniae strain:D39V
Description: In 2006, the first genome sequence of Streptococcus pneumoniae D39 was published. Since then, sequencing techniques and annotation tools have made a leap forward, rendering the original genome assembly and annotation of D39 outdated. Here we used Single Molecule, Real-Time (SMRT) sequencing to obtain high-quality genome sequence information and use the most recent annotation tools and up-to-date research results to create an improved annotation of Streptococcus pneumoniae D39. This new assembly and annotation will be of use to the scientific community as a new reference. Additionally, differences between the original and our genome sequence may provide new insights into evolutionary pathways and physiological processes.
