Description: A spontaneously arising laboratory variant (19F_v1) of a capsule-switched TIGR4 strain (19F_wt) showed reduced ability to establish mouse nasal colonization and lower resistance to non-opsonic neutrophil-mediated killing in vitro, a phenotype correlated with in vivo success. Whole genome sequencing was performed to identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 19F_v1 relative to its ancestor.
