Description: Members of the Bacteroides genus (phylum: Bacteroidetes) represent major constituents of the healthy human gut microbiota. The saccharolytic capabilities of Bacteroides spp. far exceed those of most other gut bacteria and allow these organisms to utilize a broad range of host- and diet-derived carbohydrates. Here, we provide the sequence of the Bacteroides cellulosilyticus WH2 genome, which is noteworthy for both its size and the number of carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZymes) it encodes.
