Description: Accurate differentiation of canine microfilariosis and successful treatment and elimination of microfilariae from canine host is very important from the public health aspect.Therefore present study was carried out with the following objectives.(1) To identify the various species involved in microfilariosis in dogs and its differentiation by histochemical staining method and polymerase chain reaction (PCR)(2) To elucidate the protein profile of the most pathogenic species identified to determine the immunogenic protein(3) To explore the possibility of cloning and subsequent sequencing of the PCR products of the above species(4) To study the correlation between the clinical signs and the species of microfilariae(5) To suggest an effective therapeutic regime for microfilariosis in dogsHha I repeat region of Brugia malayi from dogs of Thrissur district of Kerala state, India,
