Project name: bovine gut metagenome
Description: In this study, the microbial consortia adherent on solid digesta in the rumen of Jersey cattle were subjected to an activity-based and pyrosequencing metagenomic study to characterize the genetic diversity of carbohydrolytic enzymes, with a particular focus on cellulases and xylanases. Pyrosequencing and bioinformatic analyses revealed over 100 carbohydrate-active fosmids containing genes that encode a great repertoire of carbohydrolytic enzymes and related proteins coupled with polysaccharide degradation and metabolism. The sample represents the biofilm adhering to solid digesta in the cow rumen
