Description: Recently there has been an increase in outbreaks associated with non-O157 Shiga-toxin producing Escherichia coli (STECs), most commonly associated with the serotypes O26, O45, O103, O111, O121, and O145. Escherichia coli O145:H28 str. RM12761 was originally isolated from ice cream in Belgium during a 2007 outbreak of STEC infection associated with consumption of ice cream produced in a farm.
