Description: We sequenced eight phylogenetically diverse freshwater isolates to expand diversity of existing genomic context for future studies on the ecology and genetics of freshwater bacteria. Comparison of genomic characteristics of these isolates to the only two previously sequenced freshwater bacterial genomes (Polynucleobacter necessarius ssp. Asymbioticus and Actinobacteria AcI-B1) reveals organisms exemplifying a range of lifestyle characteristics differing in growth rate, environmental response capability, and diversity of useable carbon substrates. Actinobacteria isolated from Little Long Lake, (MI, USA).
