Project name: Streptomyces lividans 1326
Description: Streptomyces species are renowned because of their ability to produce a broad arrange of chemical compounds with interesting bioactivities. Streptomyces lividans and Streptomyces coelicolor are model species of the genus. Our aim is to characterize the genotypic and phenotypic differences between wild-type and derived laboratory strains (i.e. S. lividans TK24) and understand the contribution of these differences towards adaptation to different environmental conditions. The genome sequence of S. lividans 1326 will allow functional and comparative genomics analysis, and given that S. lividans 1326 is widely used as model specie, its complete genome sequence will be very useful for the scientific community.
