Project name: Passiflora edulis
Description: Passiflora edulis is a vine that is cultivated commercially for fruit. The fruit is eaten directly and converted to juice which used as an additive. Based upon fruit skin color there are two types of passion fruit. The yellow passionfruit grows to the size of a grapefruit, has a smooth, glossy rind, and is used as a rootstock for purple passionfruit. The purple passionfruit grows to the size of a lemon, is less acidic than the yellow passionfruit, and has a richer aroma and flavor. A genetic map is the first step to identify genes that control agronomic traits.
