Project name: Vigna unguiculata

Description: In order to increase the usefulness of a genetic map for breeding a genetic map created from a mapping population derived from parents that are cultivated is most desired. Toward this end a recombinant inbred population of 158 F8 individuals was created from a cross of 'IT84S-2049' x '524B'. 'IT84S-2049' is a line with multiple disease and pest resistance including black-eyed cowpea mosaic virus and virulent root-knot nematodes. '524B' shows resistance to Fusarium wilt. The individuals of the mapping population were genotyped by RAPD markers, RFLP markers from cowpea and mungbean, AFLP markers, and 6 traits.
