Description: The rabbit, Oryctolagus cuniculus, exists in the wild and as domesticated varieties. Rabbits are valued both as pets and as game animals and are also commonly used in medical research and in safety testing of consumer products, such as drugs and cosmetics. The Oryctolagus cuniculus haploid genome is estimated to be 3500 Mb. The diploid genome is organized in 21 pairs of autosomes and two sex chromosomes.
