Description: The genus Hedyotis belongs to family Rubiaceae which includes several important plants like coffee and Cinchona. Many species under this genus are native to Hawaii. They show large morphological variations. Hedyotis terminalis is a Hawaiian native plant that bears large fleshy berries. Chromosome numbers have been reported to be between 93-105. Large number of ESTs were generated for this plant with the purpose of studying fruit development in two genetically similar Hedyotis species, H. centranthoides and H. terminalis, which bear fruits of diverse morphology. The project is presently on hold.
