Project name: Drosophila hydei

Description: The fruit fly Drosophila hydei is a member of the repleta group of the subgenus Drosophila and one of 20 fruit fly species slated for BAC library construction with a goal toward comparative genomics studies. Twelve Drosophila species are undergoing or have completed whole genome shotgun sequencing and, with the addition of BAC resources, the ability to compare gene function and annotation across the genus will be expanded. With previous information on the phylogenetic relationship amongst these fruit fly species and the genomic sequence generated, a resource will be created that will provide reagents for studies in molecular evolution and comparative genomics.
