Project name: Plasmodium knowlesi strain H

Description: The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute Pathogen Sequencing Unit is carrying out a partial shotgun sequencing of several different species of Plasmodium, including P. knowlesi. This project is performed in collaboration with the University of Oxford, England and the University of Glasgow, Scotland.The P. knowlesi H strain used for this sequencing project was originally isolated from a human infection from Malaysia (1966). The infection was succesfully transfered to monkeys and has since been maintained in laboratory simians.
