Project name: Streptomyces coelicolor strain:JCM4020
Description: Complete genome sequence of Streptomyces coelicolor JCM4020 was obtained by single-molecule real-time sequencing (PacBio RSII) and the reads were assembled by Canu/Celera Genome Assembler. S. coelicolor JCM4020 is a Gram-positive filamentous actinobacteria and produces undecylprodigiosin, actinorhodin, and desferrioxamines as secondary metabolite. The genome sequence of S. coelicolor JCM4020 was used as reference of carbon ion mutagenesis study. Mutagenesis was performed to identify the genes responsible for the production of the undecylprodigiosin. Production of undecylprodigiosin is not occurred in mono-culture, but several mycolic acid containing actinobacteria can induce the produciton. Mutants that do not produce undecylprodigiosin were screened from the co-culture with mycolic acid containing actinobacteria.
