Project name: Infant Gut Microbiome Maturation and Colonization Resistance
Description: This study aims to characterize the maturation of the infant gut microbiota and its impact on colonization resistance and the resistome. Using shotgun metagenomic sequencing on samples from healthy infants with strictly limited antibiotic exposure, we employed multivariable modeling to identify age-associated ecological shifts. Our results reveal that ecological maturation drives pathobiont contraction and enhances colonization resistance; however, it is insufficient to attenuate established beta-lactamase resistance signals. This project provides high-quality metagenomic data for understanding early-life microbial assembly and antimicrobial resistance dynamics.
