Description: The Japanese anchovy (Engraulis japonicus) holds significant ecological and commercial importance as a Clupeiform marine fish species found in the northwest Pacific marginal seas. The lack of genomic resources hampers our understanding of the genetic diversity and differentiation, as well as the evolutionary dynamics of the species. Here, we assembly a high-quality chromosome-level genome sequence using PacBio HiFi long reads and Hi-C sequencing technology.
