Description: In this study, we use metagenomic sequencing of soils/sediments to reconstruct Adélie penguin populations, diet and microbiota throughout the Ross Sea over the past 6000 years. Ornithogenic soil samples representing 15 active and abandoned Adélie penguin sites across the entire extent of the Ross Sea coastline (Ross Island to Cape Adare) were collected in January 2019 and January/February 2020.
