Abstract
This paper is a report on twelve cases of septicemia, the diagnosis made possible by medical technologists observing the degenerative morphological findings in the peripheral blood smears. This led to the finding of microorganisms, prior to the bacteriological confirmation, in an active emergency department. It also includes four case reports in which the organism was identified: a meningococcus, a pneumonococcus, an Escherichia coli, and a clostridium perfringens (welchii).
